Born to the typical farming family in Aerilon, Aemilia enjoyed being the middle child of a large family. There were always a lot of brothers and sisters to play with and share the workload. It was hard work, harvesting and planting and weeding, but at the end of the day, the whole family would gather around and have a family dinner together. They would tell stories, joke, and relax after a long day. Even as a child, Aemilia realized the importance of hard work and that if they put their time in, stayed diligent their family would prosper and stay safe from blight. While her father was more outwardly religious than the rest of the family, no one ever outright denounced any of the Gods or afforded them any disrespect. It was thought of as tempting the fates. The life of a farmer was tough enough without courting disaster.
Growing up, Aemilia was very comfortably happy in the cocoon of her family. However, she was also curious and smart. Just weeding and planting wasn't enough to keep her attention. While her parents couldn't afford to send her to any sort of fancy schools, her mother took it upon herself to homeschool her bright and determined daughter. They read through classics and modern works, whatever they could borrow or find cheap. While her education was patchworked and unconventional, it was rigorous. Through these lessons, Aemilia decided that while she loved her family, she wanted to see the worlds that she read about and experience them for herself. She would daydream about Caprica and Scorpia and imagine herself living in such a life.
It wasn't quite that way for Aemilia, however. The only way for her to afford to get off the planet, or even see more of Aerilon was to enlist in the military. It was a tough decision for Aemilia. She was never one for force or violence, however, she found out that she wouldn't have to be a fighter or a pilot. She could repair things. And so, after a long talk with her family, Aemilia agreed to stay and help her family until her youngest sister turned 16. That was three years to wait. The time passed quickly and happily enough with her family. It wasn't that she was leaving the planet to escape them, she was leaving to expand her horizons.
At 22, she enlisted and found herself on the Deck. When she started out at the very bottom, she had no idea what she was doing. She'd never had much to do with a Viper and she certainly didn't know how to fix one. However, she was a fast learner and used her educational basis for learning everything about the Deck. While she was good at repairing Vipers and finding out what was wrong with them, where she excelled and had a natural ability was finding problems before they were even problems. She had a natural affinity for noticing where something was on the verge of breaking and making sure they were fixed before it actually became an issue. She read all the manuals about the safety codes and techniques, all but memorizing them. Also, she was good at space management, knowing exactly where aircrafts should fit to maximize space safely and efficiently. Plus, that knowledge helped her with knowing exactly how things broke and were put together. So, when things failed, she knew the best way to rip it apart in order to get to the pilot inside. Or, where exactly to put out the flame to make sure that it wouldn't spread throughout the rest of the deck. As an apprentice, she was put through the courses to be an Aircraft Handler.
Eventually, Aemilia's talents and hard work earned her promotions until she found herself aboard the Cerberus. She always kept in contact with her family when she could and she was happy with her life. Much like she had promised herself when she enlisted, she'd seen many of the planets she'd read and dreamed about. And while they were great places, she still didn't find a place she loved as much as her 'backwater' home of Aerilon. The years in the military surrounded by people of all the different colonies eroded away her accent until it was barely there and almost impossible to detect as Aerilon. Deft handed at her job and personable, she settled into her life on the Cerberus easily.
Then, the Nuclear Holocaust happened. Still in shock about the events of the past couple days, Aemilia has been frantically attempting to find any word about if the devastation has hit Aerilon. An optimistic person, she refuses the believe that the Cylons would find any interest in a backwater little planet like hers. Despite what any one else has to say, she believes her family is safe. And while she's extremely worried about them, she won't let that get in the way of her job. Just like always, she's a dedicated worker of the Battlestar. It's her off-duty hours that will find her consumed with attempts to find or hear anything about Aerilon.
