Memoir: Speak Out

A crumpled-up leaflet that stinks of moonshine, found in Rejn's breast pocket after he was admitted to detox on 27 December 2041 AE. The leaflet is unsigned.

A MANIFESTO

1. We believe in the power of legitimate law-making. Civilians are perfectly capable of governing themselves, and as such, they should be subject to standards of justice that have been democratically devised. To subject civilians to the arbitrary hand of martial is to sacrifice the very principles of justice on which Colonial society was constructed. To that end, all MPs should be evacuated from MV Elpis and martial law aboard the freighter lifted.

2. We believe all human lives — from Commanders Laughlin and Kepner all the way down to the smallest infant — are equal. We think it is manifestly unfair that the bulk of the fresh vegetables and fruit Elpis produces are given to members of the military with the justification that "essential combat personnel" require better nutrition than their civilian counterparts.

3. We believe in humanity's fundamental autonomy. No man or woman should be compelled to serve against his or her will. Fleet Command should quash rumors of a draft by publicly declaring that they will never institute such a thing without prior agreement from the civilian population.

4. Most importantly, we believe in the power of democratic governance. We have the right to govern our own affairs, and to that end we demand for power over the civilian population to be transferred to a Quorum of elected officials as soon as possible.

IN THE FACE OF INJUSTICE, NO MAN OR WOMAN CAN REMAIN SILENT.
