Memoir: Elysium

(A journal entry written on a piece of scrap paper that had been salvaged from somewhere, it semi-rumpled as if having been balled up, the hastily scribbled words written in black ballpoint pen)

I almost got sent to the Fields of Elysium by a bear yesterday. A frakking bear. Apparently someone felt it was necessary to throw a grenade in a cave with her along with her babies, that being all that needed to turn the momma into a big, hulking, five hundred pound killing machine. She severely injured one of the marines and almost visited the same fate, or worse, upon me but we took her down. The bear did kind of manage to knock me on my ass and bled on me, though. Hope it'll wash out of my armor. Had to euthanize the cubs to make sure they weren't going to suffer. One of the hardest things I had to do in my life but it was the right thing to do.

Other than that, been kind of running on fumes. Exhaustion has definitely settled in hard core. Makes it hard to function but at least I can sleep without the frakking nightmares. Still…feel like I can sleep for a week. Hopefully we'll be able to get some downtime after we're back. And hopefully it won't be much longer. Tired of jabbing myself with anti-rad meds and living off of meat which most likely glows in the dark. Frak. Don't know how much more of this shit I can take.
