Deck 4 - Naval Deck - Battlestar Cerberus |
---|
The floor plating along the corridors of the Cerberus is standard military. Their forged steel plates are welded seamlessly together to run nearly the entire length of each hallway. The hallways themselves are the typical load-bearing structural design of the angled quadrilateral. Oxygen scrubbers and lighting recesses are found at nearly perfect intervals throughout the passageways. |
Post-Holocaust Day: #114 |
Look who's here! Bannik! Bannik! He's coming out of the Head, freshly washed from SUCH a long shower. He's in a freshly laundered set of Greens and is generally looking — like, well, like a human being. It's pretty nice.
Coming out of the berths is Sofia! Toolkit around her waist, clipboard in hand - it's time for another thrilling day of wire monkeying. That is until she turns to notice — there's a long moment, she does a doubletake. Another moment hangs and finally a near squeak, "Tyr!" It's her Bannik Buddy! As softly as a herd of Rhinos in slippers, Sofia comes running over. "It really is! Ohmygosh!" Uh oh. He's gonna get hugged if evasive manuevers aren't taken.
Sofia inbound one-two-one carem five. Turning to face! Bannik turns and laughs as Sofia rushes towards him. He takes the best evasive maneuver at all — he meets her half way, throwing his arms around her, hugging her tightly to him. "Sofia! Hi!" He kisses her all over, even perhaps her lips, letting just all that joy out. "Gods, I've missed you!"
Sofia laughs and smiles as his arms wrap around her. She hugs him back tightly. "Tyr! It is you!" She blushes at the kisses and returns them, a bit shocked by her boldness but - happy darnit! Not often one gets a buddy back from a Cylon infested planet! She just absorbs the joy and smiles at him. "Gods! Yes! I've missed you too. I was worried about everyone but - I'm really really glad to see you're here and -" She could almost cry with happy really. Another hug. "It's so good to see you. I could put some coffee or tea on if you wanted. Just - so happy."
It's not a romantic kiss. It's just a happy kiss. He's alive! He's here! She's here! They're all here! It's just one of those pretty darn awesome things. "I'd love some really good tea," he admits. "We didn't really have any on Leonis. I missed it. How have things been here? Have you avoided all the trouble?" Which is a euphemism for mutinies.
Happy times! Horray! Sofia smiles. It's hard not to bounce a little. "Sure. I've some regular ole breakfast stuff that I can't drink or the herbal mint stuff that I can," She offers. "It must've been seriously tough to get by down there," Her eyes are wide at him. "And … they've been interesting. And - hah, psh. I was there when they um, y'know - with the CO," Sofia seems a bit loathe to speak too much, looking around. "Yeah. I've been helping the MPs and dealing with the rolling blackouts," Sigh. She shrugs it off. "One sec." A bound into the berths and she returns with a small tin. "We should find somewhere to sit then, with some hot water. It's been kinda crazy lately really."
"I can probably find some in the berths?" suggests Bannik, already beginning to move. "Oh. Wow." He pauses. "I'm sorry. Uh. Anything I can do to help with things?" Even though the Deck must be a mess. "Or uhm. Rec Room?" He thinks of another spot.
Sofia tilts her head. "Oh! Don't be sorry," She smiles. "They will probably have you cracking in Deck really soon with all the birds needing love," She nods. "And it's okay. I'll find those wires yet. The rec room sounds fine, I bet they have a teapot there even." She offers. Sofia takes a deep breath. "I'm just really glad to see you. That's all."
Bannik picks up the conversation again as they re-enter the Recreation Room. "I'm really glad to see you too. Just. Wow. It's so amazing to be back on the ship, is all. I'm super-busy on the Deck already, trying to get things back together." Bannik moves to one of the seats and pulls it out for Sofia. "Let me see if I can scrounge up a tea pot or something." He pauses. "So. What happened?"
Sofia smiles at Bannik. "And I you. It's crazy almost like I'm happily daydreaming or something," She shakes her head. Nope. That's definitely a Bannik! She smiles again. "Thank you." She sets the tin on the table, "But I can help steep the tea at least. I'm not a bad hostess," She promises with a grin. She nods as he goes to find the tea pot. At the subject of what happened, Sofia looks around. It's mercifully quiet here. "Well… it's kind of a long story. Things've been weird," She admits. "I personally got involved when they arrested the CO from the church." A big no-no in the eyes of your average priest and Lord. Which really should say something. Her voice is quiet. "Try not to spread this around too much. I trust you lots and it /must/ be weird to come home to all this."

Sofia smiles, "Thanks Tyr." She'll open the tin. "I'm not sure how strong you like it, but - heroes first," She beams at him. The beaming stops after a moment, then she nods slowly. "Way. With MPs and all." She takes a deep breath. "They had to put a bag on his head. He looked like he was gonna fight back. But worst of all? Rime totally called the MPs on them so we had our marines fighting our marines and - we lost some of our own in that stupid fight. Basically a grenade went off in the hall," She frowns.
"No frakking …" Bannik's voice trails off. "There were grenades? Did. Uhm. Did people —" His voice trails off. "Were there dead?" It's all he can say, finally. It makes him stop in just getting his tea.
Sofia nods, "There were a few." She frowns. "I wish Rime hadn't called the MPs on them…" Sofia looks pained. She takes a deep breath. "Just a few mercifully. They subdued the CO and got him to the brig I think. I had to stay in the chapel with the others. Our Chief Engineer got hurt kind of badly," She looks sad at that. "It's been ugly and since I've been helping investigate - there's a lot of weirdness going on," She frowns.
"A few?" Bannik just falls really, really quiet. It's like it sucks all the air right out of him, all of that initial joy at being back from Leonis — it's like a punch in the gut. "But. So many of us are gone. And. We're killing each other now?"
Sofia nods, looking thoughtful. "I think 4. And yeah, as I said - we tried to stop her from calling the MPs down on them but," A headshake. "It happened. It- It's taken care of. Tragic but- the weird part is? Someone said they saw the admiral on tape talking with cylons. Like he was with them. It's been /really/ freaky too. If you're on deck, watch out for where they keep the cameras. Apparently someone's messed with stuff in the camera room and I heard rumors that a pilot died recently because of her suit. Just rumors though," She shrugs. "And someone was in two places at once and - as I said, it's been /weird/."
"No. There's a tape. I've seen it. We had it down there. Some of the locals captured it on film. He was —" Bannik's voice is really low now, conspiratorial. "He was with the metal Centurions like he was some sort of leader or something. He was /there/. Or at least a copy of him was." He finally gets around to pouring the tea, but he doesn't touch his just yet.
Sofia nods, slowly. "Yeah. I heard. And the weird part is?" She explains, "Apparently someone took some of our fiber optic cable and spliced it into the deck's cameras. Supposedly the dude who was working on Villon's bird. At the /same/ time he was taking the wires. That's the weird thing. I don't know, I'm still investigating honestly. Copies of people running around… I don't know."
"Wait. Wait. Wait. Two places at the same time?" Bannik's quiet, mulling this over. "He could be one of those copies. I mean, one of the ones that has multiples of him or something." Being on Leonis sends the conspiracy theory gears going wild.
"I wouldn't believe it unless I saw it myself." Bannik shakes his head. "But I did. I really did. It's how we know about Abbott. And that would explain how someone had such awesome computer skills. And how they could be in two places at one time." His voice is still super-hushed, head dipped low.
Sofia is looking wide-eyed at Bannik. "Wow. Really? There's another Abbott or -" She boggles. She rubs the back of her head. "That's just crazy… And kind of spooky," She admits. Sofia puts some sugar into her tea. Obnoxiously sweet. "So I wonder if that means there's a few hanging around here." She looks over her shoulder and shakes her head. "The MPs are looking in to it to make sure Abbott gets a fair trial but…" She trails off, "Since few folks have access around the ship like 3M by default, I've been helping investigate. I'll try to keep you up to date, though." She smiles at him, half-sad. "I'm so happy to see you, especially with all this. It means people we know and trust are all the more precious."
"Yeah. Totally. Yeah. I just — I don't know. When I was down there, I just tried to pray and trust that the Gods would make it all okay, whatever 'okay' meant, but it's so much easier to do when you're surrounded by friends." Bannik musters up his best, small, hesitant smile. "I led a little service down there. I think I'm going to try to organize a small memorial for our — for our friends that didn't make it back, too."
Sofia sighs and nods. "Yeah." She smiles back at him. "I - was really worried about you guys honestly. But there wasn't much I could do. They had enough engineers going," Sadface. No snipe spot for Sofia. "I suppose that's true," She nods. "That sounds good. I bet Sister Karthasi would be glad. She wasn't too happy about the fighting and shooting right outside her chapel," Sofia admits with a wrinkled nose. "If I can help with anything, just let me know. I'll make sure I go if you hold one," She promises. "I'd ask who didn't return but- I suspect that's kind of morbid and we'll hear soon enough." A headshake. "Um. Do you want anything to snack on? I feel kind of bad…"
"Nah. I'm okay. I'm just getting used to having shipboard food again as opposed to whatever we can dig up and scavenge from down there on Leonis," says Bannik with a small quirk of a smile. He doesn't answer the question about the dead. "I'd be super-glad if you came. Be good to have some friends in the crowd. The one down on Leonis." He pauses. "Well. It was a tough room."
Sofia oohs. "I can imagine," Sofia tilts her head and smiles. "Welcome home then." She nods. "And sure thing." A pause. "Probably people just really stressed out. Like normally they might've been less of a tough audience but…" Well, Cylons tend to make for bad audiences? She shrugs. "Well. I'll be sure to do my best to go then," She promises. "Things are sort of tense here too but I am glad there's some relief with folks making it back. I wonder if Miss Coll made it back too," There's some concern. She shakes it off. "My brain is racing all around it seems like," She admits.
"Yeah. Well. Just wasn't a very godsly audience, I suppose." Bannik shrugs his shoulders, as if trying to shake it off. It is what it is, right? Right. "Everyone can't have an enraptured crowd. Especially when starting out at this preaching thing." He cracks a small smile and then reaches across to take Sofia's hand. "But hey. My mind's racing, too. You just gotta take it one thing at a time. And I'll be here to help you with that now. Okay?"
Sofia nods. "Not your fault," At least she seems to think so. "Is it something you'd like to keep at?" She tilts her head. "I bet the Chaplain would be glad to help," She smiles at him then pauses as he reaches. She cautiously lets him take her hand and considers it a moment. "Yeah. The same to you too alright? I know I'm really not the same person I was before," There's a sadness and an acceptance of it. "But nothing seems to be the same. We'll do our best, and I promise to be here for you and whatever you need," She promises with aa half smile. "Thank you, Tyr. I'm really glad you're here, even if I have a hard time finding the proper words."
"None of us are the same people we were," points out Bannik. "And if someone says they are, they're lying. Or maybe we are the same people. But we're just a deeper sort of us. A more real us." He nods, as if that makes sense to him. "An us that's not clouded by all the superficial stuff that used to stand in the way."
Sofia considers it, "That's true." She considers his words. "Like perhaps parts of us were seared away by all this fire," She sighs softly. "Well. If you'd like to keep preaching, I'll try to remember to go to the chapel more often. Mom and dad were never very religious, but we didn't really fight it either," The sort of worldly apathy that might plague artists. "Maybe I've grown up a bit too," She tilts her head. "From doing silly things in the laundry room to - well, y'know, not being so silly." She looks to Tyr and smiles. "Regardless, it's -really- good to have you back. I bet everyone on Deck is glad too."
"Oh, gosh." Bannik blushes. "I don't know about that. I'm just — I'm just me. I work hard and do the best I can and —" He shrugs. But he does finish his tea and gets up so he can give Sofia a final hug. "But most of all, I'm just glad to be back with my friends and where I can help people. But speaking of the Deck, I ought to get back there. I'll see you soon, okay?"
Sofia smiles, "You do great. And we are all just ourselves." Sofia stands to accept the hug. She hugs him back tightly. "We're glad to have you. You're a kind, hard-working guy." She smiles at him again. "And I am honored to have you as a friend. But yeah- I won't keep you. I've got lightbulbs to wrestle anyway. I'll see you around," She promises and nods.
