[ Hangar Deck - Port ]---[ Midship - Battlestar Cerberus ]
The single largest rooms on the Cerberus are the hangar decks. Each flight pod consists of two stacked landing bays with adjoined decks and hangars, which along with computer-assisted landings results in a faster Viper recovery rate. Mirror images of each other, these two huge areas are located on the flight pods. The inboard sides of the deck, closest to the ship's main hull, are lined with parking and maintenance bays for Vipers and Raptors based aboard the battlestar. The outboard side of the deck contains the launch tubes used by the Vipers for standard deployment. Huge blast doors seal the deck into four sections, each one containing an elevator that leads up to the flight deck directly overhead. The fore-most section contains an elevator system that leads towards Aerospace Fabrication.

The deck is a bit crowded today, what with the staff meeting going on. Deck hands of all ages and ranks have gathered to shoot the breeze until the Chief puts in his appearance. When he does, he moves to a crate and jumps up onto it. Turning to face the crowd, he begins by raising his hands. Silence falls in waves and when it is quiet-ish, Atreus drops his arms and speaks, "Thank you all for coming. I will try to keep this short and sweet, though we have a lot to cover." He pauses for just a moment then goes on, "I am Deck Chief Constantine Atreus. I have met some of you, but not all. I am proud to serve with you. Now. I understand that the Chief before me was fairly liberal with applying the rules." He waits as there are a few murmurs of ascent. Then he adds, "I am not. While on the Deck, all the rules of the Military will be followed. What does this mean? Simple. Officers are saluted. Safety first at all times. Keep the deck clean. Stow equipment when it is not in use. Check logs of use to be sure that we are not running low on anything. No shenanigans. No exceptions. I have a zero tolerance policy for idiocy. If we get injured, we can't do our jobs and we are going to be too busy to put up with anyone lallygagging in sickbay." He pauses for a moment again, his gaze sweeping the area. "Questions so far?"

Waiting for a moment or two, Atreus looks out over the deck, then nods, "Very good. Next. Since we have some new folk, I wanted to go over a few of the regs. First, we go by last names or rank here. We do not use nicknames, callsigns, or first names. Sorry. That is just the way it is. Second. If you are unfamiliar with the regs, please take a handout. I can print them up for you, or you can look them up. (http://battlestarcerberus.wikidot.com/military-procedures) Ignorance of the rule will not be an excuse. Third. Know your job. Do your job. We have a lot of new work coming in, so I need to know that everyone is pulling their own weight. yeah?" Again, he pauses for a moment or two to see if there are questions.

Eve has been spending her time before the meeting by speaking with a handful of other deckhands, the young woman comments on a thing or two regarding aerospace designs about the Viper Mark Sevens. Then, there's quiet being ushered in and she turns to face the Deck Chief upon the crate. She shifts her weight from one boot to the other while taking a step forward, just a small one. She has no questions, not one at all. Instead, she listens and listens well.

Atreus looks around, gaze focusing on one or two then passing on. Not to single them out, but to be sure that what he is saying is heard. Finally, he nods, "Very good. On to assignments. Some of you may have heard a rumor that we need to remove the upgrades to the Mark VIIS and the Raptors." A murmur ripples through the crowd. Atreus continues, "This is true." The murmur grows to an angry buzz, "Sorry. The software release was incomplete and the contractor is adamant. The upgrade needs to be removed. Now, I've talked to the CAG and worked out a schedule with her that gets all the birds and snake rotating through here. The schedule takes into account her needs as much as possible and still gets the ships in here and back out again. When they come in the first time, the software gets removed and the old frameboards get put back in. Then, when the contractor gets us the new code, they get cycled back in to be re-upgraded." The murmur seems louder, angrier. Atreus lifts his hands, "Enough! It isn't up for debate, people. It needs to be done, so we do it. Clear?"

The Petty Officer groans at the thought of needing to cycle parts around but beyond that and giving sidelong glances and looks to those around her she keeps quiet, at least quieter than those around her. She lifts her arms up and folds them over her abdomen, tucking her hands away. Eve's attention lifts at the rise of the Chief's hands and she lifts her brows, pauses, and then eases into a brief, "Of course, Chief."

Gradually, the noise dies away and Atreus nods, "Thanks. Now, for the rest of it. The War games are coming. What will that mean for us? First, it means that the fighters need to be in tip top shape. That means that, in addition to the de-renovations and then future re-renovations, we need to be alert and responsive to the ships in our care. Remember that the lives of our pilots are in our hands more so than any other group. What we do truly matters. On war game day, we need to be a well oiled machine. Ships come in, ships go out. Pilots will be in a hurry. We can't be. That means that we will be having drills." (See page: http://battlestarcerberus.wikidot.com/military-procedures drills, hanger deck safety, etc.) "But, here is the deal. I handle drills. If anyone else comes down here, point them my way. If it is an officer, do as you are told. Even if that means selecting Imaginary Deckhand X, Y and Z to carry out their orders. If they object, get me. I'll handle it." And, by his tone, take the flack for it if necessary. "Questions?"

Atreus nods once, then moves on, "Now, as to pilots doing their own maintenance. I talked to the CAG and that will not be happening, at least for a while. After the war games, I will work with her and with her pilots to test their skills. If I pass them, and she agrees that they have the time, they will then be allowed to do routine maintenance only. I won't have anyone who does not report to me handling any of the deeper issues or repairs. There will be a procedure that the pilots must follow. I'll keep you all informed." Again the man pauses to see if there is commentary or questions.

When nothing is forthcoming, Atreus nods and looks around once more, "Alright, folks. Back to work. I'm sure we'll have another little get together like this before the war games commence. And remember. If anything comes up, just come by the office. My door's always open." Turning, he jumps off of the box and strides for said door.
