Hangar Deck - Port - Midship - Battlestar Cerberus
The single largest rooms on the Cerberus are the hangar decks. Each flight pod consists of two stacked landing bays with adjoined decks and hangars, which along with computer-assisted landings results in a faster Viper recovery rate. Mirror images of each other, these two huge areas are located on the flight pods. The inboard sides of the deck, closest to the ship's main hull, are lined with parking and maintenance bays for Vipers and Raptors based aboard the battlestar. The outboard side of the deck contains the launch tubes used by the Vipers for standard deployment. Huge blast doors seal the deck into four sections, each one containing an elevator that leads up to the flight deck directly overhead. The fore-most section contains an elevator system that leads towards Aerospace Fabrication.
Post-Holocaust Day: #356

It's a routine procedure by now for pilots getting clearance to work on the Deck. The test, if it can even be called that, is simple. Damon sets out a bird that's got two major problems with it - normal issues that the deckhands see on a regular basis - and the pilot (or ECO) has an unlimited amount of time and all the tools and materials they need to fix it. So LTJG Vasco's been set up with a Raptor off in the corner of the hangar bay to diagnose and repair reverse thruster failure and targeting systems malfunction. Damon's been glancing over in her direction every now and again; he heads over to her area now, since it looks like she's wrapping up her work. "How's it coming, El-Tee?" he asks conversationally.

Dressed down for the occassion, she is placing the panel below the ECO station back in its recess. As it latches into place, there is a click and she draws back. Shakes fixes the wrapped sweatshirt about her waist before she looks over at the Chief upon his approach. "Yeah, it seems to be. I think I figured out what was causing the weapons malfunction." she motions to the station.

She rises then, brushing her hands off on the dark pants. Solstice looks back at her work and leans down to place tools back into their place. Orderly and clean.

Damon looks down at the tools as she places them back. "Bit of an OCD there, El-Tee?" he asks with a grin, nodding at the way she's returning them neatly. "I do the same thing when I'm on the floor. All the wrenches in ascending order of size, facing the same way. All the screwdrivers sorted by type, then by size, then by length. Lasts about two seconds before someone comes and ruins it." With a quick laugh, he ducks into the Raptor and takes a seat. "What'd you find?" he asks, nodding to the ECO station.

"Well, when I need to find something, I will know if someone else has taken it. When you can't find something you need, makes the job ten times harder." She says placidly. Shakes has no show of emotion as she then nods, watching him take a seat. "I found that part of a chip at dislodged in the back. But on further notice, there was also a loose wire that was caught agianst it. It was causing a short in the locking system.." She explains, motioning with her hand.

Damon nods, listening to Shakes as she explains. "Right on. She took some hits yesterday out fighting the Raiders, it must've caused that then. They also mentioned some problems with reverse thrusters while they were trying to land, which is what caused the wear and tear during landing." He leans over the front console and glances over his shoulder at her. "OK to power on to run through pre-flight checklist, El-Tee? Let's see if her boards come up green."

She nods her head, "Took care of those as well. Seems the equalizer on the span connector was fried. Needed to be replaced and reinsulated. Natural wear and tear after a while." She says. Solstice then gives a nod of her head. "Ready when you are, Chief. I have done what I could." she admits. Shakes folds her hands behind her, standing rather straight with her fingers locking slowly. She lifts her chin, waiting in anticipation.

"Equalizer on the span connector, yeah?" Damon asks, suitably surprised with the ECO. "Sounds like you actually know what you're talking about, El-Tee. Begging your pardon, I mean, there's a lot of pilots that know how to maintain and fix their ships without really knowing the guts of their bird, y'know? You got a lot of experience fixing up ships and stuff?" He talks as he works, flicking switches and bringing the Raptor online for a pre-flight check. No beeps or buzzes so far… looking good.

"Not a lot of time repairing really. Just a lot of studying." Solstice explains. "Electrical Engineer by degree from Caprica Fleet Academy." She offers. She smiles faintly as nothing seems to be wrong thus far. Her fingers flex and then tighten about each other as she continues, "One thing I am glad I saved was my books. Was able to gather a few more on the raids we did on Tauron. My time off duty is spent reading or keeping up with physical work. I think I can add to your efforts here as well. It seems that a lot of birds are coming back dented and worn."

"Electrical Engineer, hey?" Damon says with a nod, eyes still on the console. "Well, we can definitely use all the help we can get down here. Like you said, lot of birds coming back dented. Or, you know, missing wings and on fire. We got enough supplies and materials to last us a while even with all these repairs, but… it's manpower that we're really down on, y'know?" Pre-flight check complete, and the board is green all around. The Chief gives Solstice a thumbs-up. "Looks good from here, El-Tee. Same spiel as everyone else - you're cleared to repair and maintain the Raptor frames that you operate. You'll be fitted for coveralls and have full access to our tools and all that good stuff. I'll send the memo to the CAG and your Squadron Leader for approval, but I haven't seen 'em turn a single one down so far."

With the all green there is a slow victorious smile that creeps across her lips. Solstice clears her throat and schools her features to a minimal display of pride. Shakes watches the all green for a moment in silence and then she nods, "Glad to be of help and glad to be passed and in the clear." She says. The sagittaron brushes her fingers to the empty wrist. The soma braid was still with Hosedown. "I will wait for their word just the same, hate to jump the gun." She intones and then moves to gather up the bag of tools with a grunting lug. She may be smart and a decent at her job, but she definitely isn't the strongest ECO on the line.

Damon moves forward to help her carry the bag. "Here, let me give you a hand with that, El-Tee," he says, reaching for the handle. "Knuckledraggers - we're good at carrying heavy things." He flashes a crooked grin. "So have you been out in the recent battles with these… what did they call them, Striped Raiders? I hear they're different, but all I know is that we're seeing a lot more hurtin' on the Deck than we usually do."

Thankful for his help, she smooths her sweats and then says, "Thank you, and yes I have. I don't get to see them too often but they seem meaner than before. As if they are adapting. I just watch my DRADIS, anything else and I am not doing my job right." She says. Rubbing her hands together she adds, "Have to keep the jamming signals fired and constantly adapting. They are getting faster out there." She says, giving a look back at the console.

"Hey, don't mention it," Damon says, hauling the bag out of the Raptor with ease. He's right, knuckledraggers are good at carrying heavy things. Or at the very least, he is. "They're always getting faster or sneakier or some other damn thing, aren't they?" he asks with a little sight. "Well, we'll keep beating them. You'll keep beating them. And we'll keep fixing your birds so you can."

"We'll just keep doing what we do.." She offers again and then lifts a hand to rub along her neck and then over her shoulder. Solstice smiles faintly at this and then narrows her gaze. "My theory is that these..marked raiders are of a group that has broken away from the cylons. Possibly a rogue force and we have managed to gain their attention by carrying whatever that ship is." She explains. "Perhaps a rogue group with ways of adapting faster, of following us. I half expect to see them sooner and sooner after our jumps."

"They've been pretty steady so far with their attacks," Damon remarks, putting the bag off with another toolkit. "And I know there's still ongoing investigations into the Striped Raiders. We've been working with the Air Wing and Medical to try to figure it out as best we can. The 'stripes' do kinda remind you of primitive markings or brandings, don't they?" But before he can speculate any further, he gets called for by name from across the deck. "Ah - if you'll excuse me, El-Tee. I'll be sending off that memo later today." He snaps her an informal salute and heads off to see what he's needed for.

"Thank you, Chief." she says, nodding to him, "You have your work, I will get to mine. Thanks for the test." She says and salutes him back squarely. The ECO looks back at the Raptor she had worked on and then moves off towards the stairway. She crosses the open deck and gives a ruffle of her curls.
