Ready Room - Deck 7 - Battlestar Cerberus |

With the hatches at the rear of the room, the walkways on both sides slope down towards the dais at the front of the room. The stadium seating forms a partial semi-circle around the speaking podium and provides enough seats for all three hundred members of the Air Wing. The walls are adorned with the patches of each squadron aboard and their mottos stenciled in white lettering above each one. Behind the podium is a set of large LCD screens that can display any matter of material from reconnaissance to maps to gun camera footage. |
Post-Holocaust Day: #430 |
Cidra stands by the podium in her duty blues. She's called Wade to the Ready Room, for reasons he can perhaps guess at. Various honors have been bestowed on members of the crew in the last weeks, following the Battle of Ophion with the Areion.
Yes, Wade received the note from Cidra and as soon as he got back from CAP, the Viper Pilot made his way to the Ready Room. Stepping inside, he offers a quick nod to Cidra and offers "Lieutenant Colonel…" He takes a deep breath to catch his breath and clears his throat, leaving his helmet on the closest chair "Apologies for the delay"
"Lieutenant Duncan. Present, and to attention." Cidra then descends on Wade with a small box. Which she opens, to reveal a Fleet Commendation Medal. "I shall not belabor this, as we both have our duties to be about. Lieutenant Wade Duncan, you are presented with the Fleet Commendation Medal, with valor device, for your actions in holding the line against the 'Evocati' during the Battle of the Ophion. The Knights displayed particular courage that day, and without your section Command is convinced those Raptors could never have broken through with those Marines to rescue Commander Pewter and the other Department Heads. Myself included. Further, though we do not formally count kills in the Wing, it was you who dealt the final blow to Lieutenant Colonel Skiron Baer." Cidra's tone is inscrutable, but conveys no real sign of mourning. "It was a clean kill. Nicely done."
Wade takes full attention stance and adopts a more serious expression. He looks at Cidra and when she opens the box, his gaze drifts towards the medal there "Thank you sir" Offers the man, serious but obviously proud. As for the comments on Papa, he doesn't elaborate much but says "The frakker deserved it and I hope he is still burning" There is a bit of venom in his voice but he takes a deep breath and nods to her "Thank you" He extends his hand to take the box and takes a closer look at the medal.
Cidra presents the medal to Wade. "Honors to your service, Lieutenant. That is not all I have for you today, if you can take on a few more duties in your daily affairs." A pause. "Lieutenant Bell sustained injuries in the Battle of Ophion from which he has not yet recovered. And Medical tells me his recuperation shall be a far longer effort than either of us had anticipated. As such, he shall not be able to be active in day-to-day instruction of the Viper nuggets." Another pause. "You are coming along well as an instructor. What is more, you are an officer I trust. How would you feel about taking charge of the Viper portion of the Hyperlights training regimen?"
Wade looks up as she mentions it's not all "Oh" Then he nods about Bell "Yes, I've heard his injuries were rather severe, I was hoping to drop by and pay him a visit" He takes a deep breath and clears his throat, there is some concern there. Now, his gaze snaps back to Cidra at her last question and he asks "Me?" Surprised? You could say that, yeah. He arches both eyebrows and it takes a couple seconds to answer but then he nods and says "Yes, of course sir, it would be an honor"
Cidra nods shortly to Wade, satisfied. "Very good. Your flight assignments and patrol and Alert duties within the Knights shall not change. The Hyperlights train, after all. Unless worse truly comes to worst, they do not fly in combat. But you will take on far more responsibility for their training and oversight. I am hoping splitting duties of that between the Vipers and Raptors shall keep things from hitting you too harshly. But. I suspect you shall rise to the challenge. Honors to your service, Lieutenant Duncan, and my thanks."
Wade listens to her words in silence and nods in acceptance "Always like a challenge" There is a bit of a smile from him as he says that and then stands straight, offering a salute to her. "Thank you, Toast" He moves at ease now and looks at the medal again, smiling a little bit while looking at it. The man finally closes the box and saves it in one of his pocket, zipping it up so it doesn't fall.
"Very good. I shall do what I can to see Lieutenant Bell has his affairs in order with them, but you can being effective tomorrow. Clear eyes and steady hands, Drips. And do know you can come to me if you have any difficulty with your…charges. The Nuggets can a handful at times, but I think you shall have the patience to manage our newest Vipers. Dismissed." And with that, Cidra lets him go.
Wade looks at Cidra and nods to her, showing a smile to the woman. He claps his hands and rubs them together "Time to get my electric cane" He chuckles at that and then winks. "Thank you Cid, I appreciate this" He clears his throat and nods afterwards, still smiling. When she dismissed him, he stands straight again, salutes "Clear eyes and steady hands" turns around, and leaves.
