The small rural town of Fallingwater had always been a quiet place, which was why a number of people from the more urban parts of Picon chose it as a vacation spot, when they were going for places to rest and relax. It was here that local hunting guide and mechanic Wilhelm Blaine lived with his wife Antonia, who worked as a chef for the local restaurant. This story properly begins in the autumn of 2017 AE, when the pair became parents for the first time, to a boy that got the name Samuel Hercules Blaine. And a few months after Samuel had turned two, the family became four, as the couple's second son, Victor, was born.
Samuel's youth was rather uneventful one, where he got to spend lots of time outdoors, where his father was teaching him lots of things, both about outdoors life, and about technical things. From his mother, who was a hobby guitarist, he learned about music in general, and to play the guitar specifically. The more negative side of things were that he displayed a hot temper, that seemed to flare up once in a while, rather harshly, although the outbursts were soon over.
He also tried on competition shooting, but while doing fairly well there, it was when he was allowed out hunting with his father he felt that he was enjoying himself the most. However, small town life wasn't fitting him well, and when he was 18, he left home, to join the Colonial Marine Corps.
As he went through his basic training, he early on got a few good friends in the group of new recruits. Gregor Millane was a huge brute of a guy from Aerilon, while Bradley Hillman was exactly the opposite, a small, cunning guy from Sagittaron. The fourth person in the little group of friends that formed was the one that would seem to be the leader of the group, a young woman from Leonis named Elizabeth Buckley. Together, these four friends got through basic, and would for years to come always stay in touch, whenever they could.
Then came the advanced individual training, and the quartet was split up for now. Bradley went on to the field communicator course, while Gregor became a heavy weapons specialist and Elizabeth ended up as an assault engineer. Samuel himself ended up on the way into the Military Police. He worked hard during his training, and soon thereafter got himself an assignment to Fort Calderone on Virgon. In the forest areas near the fort, he spent much of his free time outside, enjoying the peace and quiet out there.
A few, uneventful years later, he was transferred to the Fleet HQ on Picon to the security detail there. The times he got some leave, most of it was spent visiting his family and friends back home in Fallingwater. Recently, he got a promotion to Corporal, and a transfer to the new Battlestar Cerberus.
He's served about the Cerberus since the trial run, and was one of the Marines that got severely wounded in the frantic events as the Cylons attacked, and spent most of the time since then in sickbay. He's only recently gotten back into active duty.
His long stay in sickbay left a mark on him. Now he'll do anything he can to avoid having to seek the help of the medical department, and it has to be very painful reasons for him to voluntarily head to sickbay. He also seems to be an optimist, although underneath the optimistic exterior, he's not always thinking about things as brightly as it may seem. But everyone has to do their part in keeping spirits up, right?
